Dundee is the fourth-largest city in Scotland. It lies on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, which feeds into the North Sea.
Dundee is known for "jam and journalism". Marmalade, was purportedly invented in the city by Janet Keiller in 1797 hence "jam". "Journalism" refers to the publishing firm DC Thomson & Co.(the Beano, Dandy, Sunday Post), which was founded in the city in 1905 and remains one of the largest employers.
The Dundee International Book Prize open to new authors, was once won by William McGonagall, regularly cited as the "worlds worst poet".
Popular music group Average White Band, hail from Dundee, and the rock band Snow Patrol was formed by students at the University of Dundee.
